Alaska Legislative session starts today 19 Jan '10

wow, I can't believe it's been over a month since I have done a post on this site. To those that come here as a regular and/or infrequent visitor I just want to say I'm very sorry for that. I can't believe it myself. I haven't lost interest, quite the contrary I have been busy working on a couple film projects, post production one 1 which is a script based project and info gathering etc for the RE film. One which I expect to pick up now that the session has begun. Another reason is that I'm also gearing for and doing some offline prep for another website for an Alternative energy advocacy group which I belong to as well.
That said I must get to my regular place of employment so that I can continue the other aforementioned projects and please keep checking back as I expect sooner than later we'll be feeding this site with all kinds of info and advocacy because it's harvest time in the legislature folks!

ADN story on wind energy, turbines 29 nov 09

I don't think I've ever linked a newspaper or any other form of medias story from this site but this one appeared in the Anchorage Daily News today. ADN. It talks of wind energy conversion, turbines, etc and Alaska. I'm not going to make judgment one way or the other except that to say that no matter what you might think of the article it is a sign that Renewable energy in Alaska and elsewhere is becoming a newsworthy.
With no further delay here's the link.

Renewable Energy Alaska Film Project

Some of you that visit this site will know and of course many others of you that come by here will not, but I am in pre-production on a film documenting Renewable Energy in Alaska. By pre-production at this time what I mean is that I am formulating, researching, and gathering content that will or could possibly fit into the theme of the film, which will at this point be in part or whole divided into segments comprised of the following.

A-What the state of Alaska has to offer in renewable Energy resources and possibilities. How do they vary from region to region.

B-Means by which those offerings can be harnessed and to what degree.

C-What hurdles political, environmental and otherwise are presented to those individuals, businesses, communities, etc. who seek to implement their own generation.

D-How has the field changed in recent years due to political, environmental, and technological changes and advancements.

E-Showcase some select projects that are currently in operation, being researched, or moving forward in the state, from home based to utility scale.

F-Who are currently and who has been the players in this state.

G-What does it look like the future may hold in Alaska for renewables.

Of course this is at this time only a seeding of an overview toward what I am researching right now for this project and is of course subject to change.
I am also looking into financing, funding, and the ways and means that I can adequately document the research and footage of above said segments.
I am at this point also currently doing some filming when opportunity presents itself in an effort to gather footage to draw from when it is time to start assembling the film.

At this point I am working on a potential time line of mid October 2010 to finalize post production.

My main drive in this is that of public education. Because I believe it is through education of the public that real, sustainability in energy generation can become a reality in hopefully a shorter rather than longer time frame. To be honest, I am not against fossil fuels, they will have a large role for many years to come but to not look and work towards the next stage is not only irresponsible but it is also denial and selfish at best.

In closing, If the above interests you and you believe you have something of value in the way of research, information, logistics, financing possibilities, or technical skills, etc. at your disposal please contact me Here and we'll talk! I'm not making any promises of what will and will not be included in the project at this point but I certainly don't want to miss an opportunity or leave out something that I will later wish had been included.

I AM making this film.
If it is wholly by my own time and money I AM making this film. How much I can afford to put into it only time will tell but I do want to produce something of value to this cause that will at once enlighten, awaken, and help the forward motion of this issue to not only keep going but to thrive and flourish. Believe me I am constantly learning the great scope of this issue and no matter how much research I and you do there will always be more to learn and more concerns, conflicts, and issues which keep this an interesting and deeply woven subject. One which there is no easy answer and certainly none that will ever appease everyone. This film is of and about Alaska but it is a world stage issue. But Alaska is my home and I've heard that to change the world then start at home. Well here I am. Here we are. Lets go.

There's a reason I keep the following words at the bottom of every page on this site.

"Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That maybe it couldn't, but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried."
Edward Guest

Forward this on to others you might feel could have an interest in this project and to those you feel just might simply be interested! :)

As always, Thank you for stopping by and please keep checking back!

"The energy needs in rural areas are unique not only to Alaska but to the entire country," said Energy Co-chair Bryce Edgmon, D-Dillingham. "Rural leaders are leading the way to solving the energy crisis in their own communities. With some carefully measured assistance from the legislature and the administration they can get a lot more done in the next few years on renewable energy and energy efficiency projects."

Committee members also received an update on the House Energy Stakeholders Group. The group of Alaskans from the natural resource development, business, conservation and renewable energy organizations are close to finalizing a state energy policy, which if passed next session, will be put into statute. The update was given by Bill Popp, President & CEO, Anchorage Economic Development Corporation and Chris Rose, Executive Director, Renewable Energy Alaska Project.

Energy Co-chairs Edgmon and Millett are also working on an omnibus energy bill for next session.
